Activities
At The Whitcomb At the Whitcomb
there's plenty to do all year long, depending on your mood. Relax
in the library; attend a seminar, public forum or lecture; focus
on a creative writing class; play cards or shuffleboard with friends,
or compete in a variety of interactive and mind-stimulating games.
Want to rev things up a bit? Try an exercise class,
work out in our fitness center, join the "Whitcomb Walkers,"
line dance or swim at the nearby WCA pool - only a short walking
distance away.
Just steps from everything, those who live at the
Whitcomb are part of a thriving community that doesn't stop at the
front door. Summer is an especially festive time in downtown St.
Joseph and the Whitcomb's central location places it in the heart
of the action that makes this bustling lakeside city so unique.
Front Row Seats! From the first
summer "brown bag" concert in the John E.N. Howard band
shell in June (right next door), to the spectacle of the Tri-State
Regatta over Labor Day weekend, there's always plenty to see and
do within a safe and easy walking distance. A free motorized "trolley"
running daily throughout the summer is perfect for people who like
to take life a little easier. Or just for fun, take a ride on a
horse-drawn carriage - it's free, compliments of the city.
The annual outdoor Krasl Art Fair on the bluff
and sunset symphonies performed at the Shadowland Pavilion at nearby
Silver Beach round out the summer season's more cultural fare. Meanwhile,
the Venetian Festival, the biggest social event in the area, draws
top-name entertainment in all varieties. The summer festival has
its kick-off at the annual Big Band Dance hosted by the Whitcomb
and held on our covered, outdoor terrace.
Music! Music! Music! From professional
musicians on piano and string to artists who sing and encourage
others to join in, a medley of entertainment abounds at our Friday
Social Hour. Meanwhile, our fun-loving "Out to Lunch Bunch"
enjoys dining out once or twice a month at fine restaurants throughout
the area. And there are many for us to choose from!
At the Whitcomb, independent living means choosing
how to spend your time with so many options available. Choosing
may be the hardest part.
